Organization

The Proteomics Platform of Toulouse has been created in 2000, based on the expertise in mass spectrometry of researchers at the Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology (IPBS, CNRS, Toulouse), which constitutes the main Proteomics Platform site. Part of a newly created structure (IFR150, Biomedical Research in Toulouse), a partner site of the Proteomics Platform is composed of three groups integrated in hospital’s research laboratories in the Toulouse area (Rangueil hospital, Purpan hospital, and Claudius Regaud Institute for cancer), with complementary technical skills. The two sites are constantly interacting to manage and share scientific programs when appropriate, and to decide on new equipments. The Proteomics Platform has an advisory board, composed of researchers representing the Toulouse scientific community in biology and medicine.

Objectives

The principal aim of the Toulouse Proteomics Platform is to provide state-of-the-art techniques in proteomics to the scientific community. Proteomics is a rapidly expanding field, where instrumentation in mass spectrometry and associated analytical and biochemical strategies are regularly improving. Despite the impressive progress over the past decade, especially for protein identification in highly complex mixtures, challenges remain. They include the identification of low-abundance proteins, the characterization of post-translational modifications, and the analysis of protein-protein interactions associated with the dynamics of protein complexes. The Proteomics Platform is conducting research and development in these challenging areas.
